Professorship (W 3) Data Analytics

The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in Computer Science with a specialisation in Data Analytics. The position will be based in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.
The professorship will strengthen the research area Artificial Intelligence for Empowering the Future, one of the university’s four strategic focus areas. It will play a leading role in the Interdisciplinary Centre for Machine Learning and Data Analytics, where various research groups at the University of Wuppertal collaborate and also network with technology companies. Through the Interdisciplinary Centre and the Collaborative Research Centre 1701 “port-Hamiltonian Systems,” we offer an excellent environment for challenging research projects and collaborations. Furthermore, the experimental particle physics groups provide first-hand access to challenging application scenarios for data analysis within the school.
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- We are seeking a candidate with an international reputation in the field of computational data analysis in sciences, whose research concentrates on innovative computational methods, particularly in the areas of algorithms and the formally grounded analysis of such methods in, e.g., the area of machine learning.
- We expect the research to connect with the existing research within the research group of Mathematics and Computer Sciences and that the professor will be able to – and actually will – contribute to the Collaborative Research Centre1701 “Port-Hamiltonian Systems.”
- Experience in exploring innovative application areas is desirable. A track record of successfully securing external funding is required.
- The successful candidate is expected to provide dedicated and high-quality teaching in the computer sciences programmes and in the school’s other programmes with a strong focus on computer sciences including courses for students of other schools.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed university degree (master or equivalent) in Computer Sciences or a related field
- Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate
- Further relevant scientific achievements performed during a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad
- Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure
- You are expected to achieve adequate German language skills within the first two years of service, within the first year at level B2 and at level C1 within a total of two years at the latest.
You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by a visible profile, which is aligned with the aforementioned tasks and requirements, through publications in peer-reviewed journals, the acceptance of your contributions at highly ranked conferences, national and international collaborations, and successful acquisition of third-party funding.
