The position will be filled on a salaried basis and is made available for a period of six years according to section 50 subsection 2 sentence 1 no. 5 of the Baden-Württemberg state law covering higher education and specifically the promotion of highly gifted junior researchers.
The professorship is directed at Clinician Scientists. It is expected that the future holder of this position has profound knowledge in metabolic research, with a focus on diabetology and endocrinology. Special focus on metabolic and/or vascular diseases is desired. High ranked and relevant publications shall prove the international reputation and the sustainable contribution to this field of research. Furthermore, experience in conducting and analyzing clinical trials and handling of large clinical datasets with appropriate methods, for example using AI or machine learning, is desired.
The ability to acquire competitive third-party funding as well as in-depth experience with interdisciplinary research projects are prerequisites for this position. The active participation in cooperative projects and experience in different institutions, especially international ones, are explicitly welcomed. The active initiation and the participation in joint research projects is expected to contribute to the establishment and development of research networks within and beyond the institution.
The professorship is associated with responsibilities in clinical patient care. The specialist qualification in Internal Medicine is required. The specialist qualification in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Diabetology or in Angiology is desirable.
The translational research activities of this professorship, in conjunction with outstanding patient care, are intended to further strengthen Tübingen’s position as a leading center for prevention and diabetes care. Through close collaboration with the Institute for Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases (IDM) of the Helmholtz Center Munich at the University of Tübingen, the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) and the Vascular Center at the University Clinic in Tübingen, the position creates synergies in the area of translational, metabolic-vascular research within the research focus area of Diabetes and Vascular Medicine.
We expect committed participation and active shaping of teaching within the degree programs taught at the Tübingen Faculty of Medicine. Extensive and outstandingly evaluated teaching experience and commitment are expected, especially with regard to innovative curricula of the study programs as well as active participation in the design of lectures and other teaching formats. The teaching obligation is 9 hours per week during the semester.
Prerequisites for employment are a habilitation or equivalent qualification and teaching experience equivalent to the requirements of a full professorship as well as a relevant specialist qualification.
