The Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital
of Giessen and Marburg GmbH, Marburg site, are seeking to fill a

Professorship (W3) in Neuropathology

for the summer semester .2027

The professorship represents the field of neuropathology in research, teaching, and patient
care, it includes the independent directorate of the Institute of Neuropathology of the Medical Faculty and the University Hospital Marburg
(UKGM).

The responsibilities for inpatient and outpatient care cover the entire spectrum of neuropathology, including electron
microscopy diagnostics. A particular focus is placed on neuro-oncology, epilepsy surgery, vascular neuropathology, and studies of the
peripheral and enteric nervous systems. Furthermore, the advancement of molecular neuropathology as a translational approach to new
therapies for brain tumors is expected, as is collaboration with the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) in Marburg. Close collaboration with
the Institute of Pathology is also expected.

Research activities of this professorship shall contribute to the research focuses
inflammation / infection and / or cancer research, and shall strengthen the Faculty's efforts to establish a profile in the fields of
neuro-oncology and / or neuroinflammation. For this purpose, active interdisciplinary collaboration with existing research networks,
institutes, and clinical partners is assumed.

In addition, the candidate is expected to play a particularly active role in raising
competitive external funds and to contribute to the establishment of new research initiatives. Active participation in programs to promote
young talents and the Clinician Scientist Program is also anticipated.

The position requires a strong commitment to teaching in
human medicine, as well as in life sciences (human biology), participation in further development of the curriculum, interdisciplinary
teaching projects, and the implementation of the NKLM (National Competency-Based Learning Objectives Catalog for Medicine).

We are
seeking an internationally recognized researcher (m/f/d) in the field of neuropathology with excellent clinical and diagnostic expertise.

The successful candidate should have an outstanding track record in publications and in competitive external fund raising as well as
a strong interest in collaboration and

interdisciplinary cooperation. In addition, applicants should possess solid teaching skills
and experience.

The requirements of the position include a university degree in human medicine, a sound teaching track, a doctoral
degree, and, in addition, academic achievements demonstrated by a habilitation or equivalent qualifications, which may also have been
achieved in the context of a junior professorship. Furthermore, board certification for neuropathology is required for appointment.

The employment requirements of Sections 67 and 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) apply.

The responsibilities
associated with patient care duties and the clinical directorate are governed by a chief physician contract with university hospital Marburg
(UKGM GmbH).

The universities of Giessen and Marburg, together with the Technical University of Central Hesse, have established the
Central Hesse Research Campus. Within this framework, the two medical faculties practice a structured collaboration based on coordinated
priorities. Accordingly, candidates are expected to be willing to cooperate across universities and departments in campus priorities and
profile areas, as well as to participate in collaborative projects. In particular, cross-site, patient-oriented clinical research and
participation in joint clinical trials are required.
