The Department of Film, Television, and Media at the University of Michigan is searching for a Program Assistant to provide a wide range of student services, marketing and communication, and general office support to the department.

This is a 100% effort (40 hours per week) position. This position has a M-F, 8 am-5 pm schedule, with very occasional evening work expected.

In addition to supporting the undergraduate and graduate programs, the program assistant also provides critical support to the entire Film, Television, and Media community through their presence and work in our main office. They are often the first point of contact with the department for prospective and current students, faculty, as well as parents, staff from across campus, and members of the Ann Arbor community.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Student Services Support: Enter and maintain class schedule in Wolverine Access. Collect, enter, and maintain course descriptions; collect, upload, and archive syllabi. Process overrides. Manage classroom requests; monitor textbook ordering.
  • Event Support: Assist Student Services Coordinator with planning and executing departmental undergraduate declaration event, participation in LSA Major/Minor Fair; assist with graduate recruitment, orientation, and professionalization lunches; assist with Mitchell Scholars program events, assist with other events as needed.
  • Communication Support: Create, maintain, and update content of departmental website; assist with social media accounts; create departmental e-newsletter; create content for and maintain digital signage. Create department-specific advertisement for Giving Blue Day; create departmental flyers and other promotional materials for events and classes; create PowerPoint presentations for promotional and outreach presentations. Edit and format departmental communications and reports. Suggest, create, and implement ideas for departmental branded merchandise.
  • General Office Support: Greet visitors, answer/route questions, and answer the phone. Monitor and order office and kitchen supplies. Order computers and peripherals and coordinate set-up with IT. Maintain departmental directories, email lists, copier codes, and mailboxes. Troubleshoot copier and printer and call for appropriate service persons as needed. Process incoming and outgoing mail. Coordinate bi-annual shredding event. Maintain departmental bulletin boards. Schedule departmental conference room and meeting rooms. Act as liaison to UM Facilities for routine facilities issues (light bulbs, etc.) Supervise student temp in the main office.

Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and problem solve. Ability to work effectively and sensitively with a variety of students, faculty, and staff. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials and situations appropriately. Proficiency with information technology applications, including MS Word and Excel, Adobe Creative Cloud, as well as website maintenance. Must have excellent organizational skills, demonstrate the ability to set priorities, and handle multiple assignments and deadlines; meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Reasonable knowledge of UofM and LSA policies and procedures. Experience with event planning. Experience using Wolverine Access. Experience in graphic design, marketing.

The salary range for this position is $41,400 to $51,700. Please note that a higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidate's experience.
