Program Coordinator I
Position Summary
Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Program Coordinator I. Reporting to the Assistant Dean/Director of Student Life and Leadership, this position is responsible for coordinating, organizing and assessing campus-wide late-night/evening and weekend programs initiated by the Office of Student Life & Leadership. These programs and experiences are designed to challenge and support emerging, executive, and advanced student leaders as they progress through critical stages of identity development.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Provides support to the area of Student Life with an emphasis on evening and weekend programs
- Oversees the planning and implementation of evening and weekend programming in conjunction with a cross-divisional programming model
- Plans and coordinates monthly off-campus excursions for students to engage with campus life
- Provides direct support of the following experiences: Weeks of Welcome, Convocation, Move-in Weekend, commuter engagement initiatives, residential student programming, and other engagement initiatives that support student persistence and retention
- Advises designated groups of student organizations selected at the discretion of the Assistant Dean/Director and participates in leadership development programs, trainings and retreats for student leaders
- Oversees marketing and outreach for the Office of Student Life & Leadership by enhancing visibility campus-wide for undergraduate and graduate students at Rutgers University-Newark
- Serves as the central point of contact for collaborations with key campus departments coordinating campus-wide engagement initiatives for all students at Rutgers University-Newark
Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of student development and leadership, student organization advising, event planning and coordination, workshop facilitation, office administration and report writing. Requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant administrative experience.
Equipment Utilized
Must have a working knowledge of traditional office equipment (i.e., copy machines, printers, fax machine, computers, etc.), and Microsoft Office.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Fast paced work environment. May need to work late nights, weekends, and holidays for specific programs and campus initiatives at the request of the supervisor or Student Affairs leadership.
