Job Description:
Function of Position:
The Program Coordinator of Fire/Rescue Programs has primary responsibility for developing training and education strategies for meeting the training and education needs of a wide range of customers. This includes developing, coordinating, and supervising fire, rescue, and related education and training programs. The Program Coordinator reports to the Manager of Fire/Rescue Programs and assists the Manager with the operation of the Public Safety Training Facility's Fire Training Grounds (FTG) and related equipment. Programs coordinated include the Fire Protection Technology and Public Safety Communications degrees, the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, industrial firefighting, and contract fire/rescue courses with the major PSTF partners.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary Functions:
- Developing, implementing, and supervising all aspects of fire service training and education programs.
- Supporting PSTF partner course management to include coordinating billing and registration processes, scheduling, FTG instructor staff training, and fire training regulation compliance.
- Management of fire training equipment.
- Coordination of the Fire Protection Technology and Public Safety Communications degree programs to include program design, marketing, student advisement and registration, assessment of prior learning, and other direct student support activities and responsibilities.
- Performing degree program assessments as required.
- Instructor management to include recruitment, hiring, evaluation, assignment, and compliance with college and department policies.
- Provide direct program support for training programs, including logistics, instructor management, instruction as required, curriculum development and documentation, and contract development.
Secondary Functions:
- Coordination of fire training apparatus use and maintenance.
- Research supply and equipment purchases.
- Assessment of prior learning.
- Coordinate national certification processes as required.
- Support emergency services training-related activities for other disciplines at the Public Safety Training Facility.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution or an associate's degree with bachelor's degree completion within two years.
- Demonstrated understanding of the culture of the fire service.
- Substantive, active participation (emergency response and training) as an interior-qualified firefighter in a fire department.
- Knowledge and experience in teaching adult learners.
- Effective and substantive leadership experience, preferably in the fire service.
- Demonstrated use of the application of educational/instructional technology.
- Computer/technology literacy, including advanced word processing.
- Demonstrated ability to market programs or ideas.
- Demonstrated ability to function both independently and as an effective team member.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective classroom and presentation skills preferred.
- Commitment to supporting inclusiveness and diversity.
- Commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned master's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
- Experience coordinating or managing training and/or educational programs.
- Experience teaching/instructing in an academic environment.
- Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.
Physical Demands of the Position:
- Combination of office, classroom, and extended periods of time walking and standing on the Fire Training Grounds.
- Light lifting.
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a range of $58,000 to $63,000 and is based on the mentioned factors.
MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit-eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting, and compressed work schedules. The availability of flexible work arrangements varies by division, department, and position, based upon business and operational needs. Limitations to flexible work arrangements are outlined in the official policy.
Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications. In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short-term, temporary basis.
