Position Overview:

The purpose of this position is to provide high-level administrative and project management support to a senior cancer researcher whose work focuses on cancer-related health equity.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the Lead Investigator’s calendar, including coordinating meetings, events, and travel arrangements.
  • Monitor and support project workflows to ensure the timely completion of research deliverables.
  • Format manuscripts and supplemental materials for scientific journal submission, ensuring compliance with author guidelines.
  • Develop and design PowerPoint presentations for national/international conferences, community talks, and academic settings.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and organized records for multiple concurrent research initiatives.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications and progress reports.
  • Track deadlines and milestones across research and community-engaged projects.
  • Communicate with internal and external collaborators, including faculty, community partners, and research staff.
  • Perform administrative tasks and clerical duties related to research and scholarly activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Social Behavioral Science, Communications, or Health Administration; candidates with 5 or more years of directly relevant professional experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Minimum of two years of professional administrative or project coordination experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with citation management software preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a hourly employee at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience formatting academic manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal submission.
  • Familiarity with grant writing, IRB protocol management, or community-based research.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare or research setting.
