Program Director of Master of Education (M.Ed.)

The Goodwin University School of Applied Liberal Arts and of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Program Director for the Master of Education (M.Ed.). The M.Ed. coursework provides students with a firm grounding in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), teacher leadership, and social justice (i.e., inclusive pedagogy). The overarching programmatic goal is to prepare reflective practitioner-leaders who have the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions to apply evidence-based practices that advance educational excellence, equity, and inclusivity across a seamless PreK-20 educational system.
The M.Ed. Program Director serves under the direction of and reports to the Dean of School of Applied Liberal Arts and of Social Sciences. The Director is responsible for leading and managing all programmatic functions to ensure delivery of a high-quality curriculum that is rooted in UDL principles and supports student success. Representative programmatic responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching graduate courses each semester (fall, spring, summer), advising students, assessing course- and program-level student learning outcomes, ensuring the program curriculum is current, supervising and evaluating faculty, developing and managing the program budget, building community partnerships, and marketing the program.
Essential Duties:
The M.Ed. Program Director serves under the direction of and reports to the Dean of the School of Applied Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Abiding by and upholding Goodwin’s mission, policies, and core values.
- Managing all aspects of the M.Ed. program.
- Providing programmatic and academic leadership and oversight.
- Ensuring delivery of a high-quality curriculum that is rooted in UDL principles and supports student success.
- Facilitating student progression and assist with student retention.
- Maintaining high programmatic and academic standards.
- Remaining current in programmatic emphases and instructional methodologies.
- Teaching graduate courses as required under terms of the issued faculty letter of appointment.
- Assessing course- and program-level student learning outcomes.
- Preparing and submitting timely reports as required.
- Developing and managing the program budget.
- Recruiting, supervising, and evaluating full-time and adjunct faculty.
- Building community partnerships.
- Develop and lead a program advisory board.
- Marketing the program.
- Participating in service to the school, University, and profession.
- Engaging in scholarly work relevant to the program and field (e.g., publications, presentations).
- Performing other related duties, as assigned by the Dean
Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
- Interested individuals must possess strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills with a keen orientation to detail, deadline, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability and desire to acquire new knowledge and skills independently
- Ability to work independently as well as be part of a team
- Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have:
- An earned Doctoral Degree in education or educational leadership.
- A sustained record of excellence as a K-12 school leader.
- Substantial experience applying UDL in K-12 learning environments.
- Verifiable training in the application of UDL in higher education.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching in graduate education.
- Established skill in teaching in an on-line environment and using web-based applications and learning management software.
- Proven ability to relate well to others within the higher education academic environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- A commitment to the academic, emotional, and social development of all students.
