About the Opportunity

The Surgery and Anaesthesia Program is a large and diverse clinical program, with considerable expertise and innovation across its services.
Monash University's Department of Surgery sits within the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health, the University's largest clinical school. The Department has teaching and research activity across the surgical specialties and established collaborations across Monash Health and the University.
Together, this creates a significant opportunity to strengthen the connection between clinical innovation, research and education and accelerate academic growth across Surgery.
The Role
The successful candidate will provide senior medical leadership across the Surgery and Anaesthesia Program while leading the academic direction of Surgery at Monash University.
The role will drive excellence in quality and safety, clinical performance, workforce and culture, while supporting clinical innovation, service reform and new models of care. The successful candidate will lead and develop senior clinical leaders and build a collaborative and accountable culture across the Program.
As Professor and Head of Department, the successful candidate will strengthen research performance and academic capability, foster research across the surgical specialties, support education and research training, and build opportunities for translational impact and collaboration.
The Candidate
We are seeking an accomplished and collaborative clinical academic leader with a strong record in clinical practice, research and senior leadership.
You will bring an outstanding record of international scholarly achievement in Surgery, a sustained program of high-quality research and a strong record of research funding and academic leadership. You will demonstrate the ability to lead in a large and complex clinical environment, develop high-performing teams, build productive partnerships and translate strategic ambition into meaningful outcomes.
