Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Financial Assistance (WCC), the Program Specialist (WCC)/SUNY Reconnect is a grant-funded position responsible for providing administrative and programmatic support for the SUNY Reconnect initiative. The incumbent assists in implementing, coordinating, and evaluating program activities designed to identify, recruit, and support adult learners who are returning to higher education.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the SUNY Reconnect program.
- Engage with prospective and eligible students to encourage enrollment and program participation.
- Provides information and guidance regarding admissions, financial aid, academic support services, and other student resources.
- Maintains accurate student records, prepares reports, and ensures compliance with program and grant requirements.
- Serves as a liaison between students, faculty, and administrative offices to resolve issues and facilitate access to services.
- Assists in planning and implementing workshops, orientations, and events to support program goals.
- Collects, analyzes, and reports data related to student outcomes and program effectiveness.
- Performs related administrative duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes
- Knowledge of college student services, including admissions, financial aid, and academic advising.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and community partners.
- Familiarity with grant-funded program compliance and reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and student information systems.
- Sensitivity to the needs of diverse and non-traditional student populations.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: It is required that the successful candidate possesses a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, and two years of experience in the field of education, educational administration, recruitment and/or training, or in the analysis of program operations, marketing or customer services. The satisfactory completion of 30 credits towards a Master's degree may be substituted for each year of experience.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of non-traditional adult students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and related systems preferred.
Additional Information
WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary for this position is $74,384. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximizes at a salary of $92,149. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
POSITION EFFECTIVE: Priority will be given to applications received by June 26, 2026. However, the interview process may include the review of applications beyond the application deadline date, as necessary, and until the position is filled. This position is grant-funded, and continuation is contingent upon renewal of funding.
