Department Description
The Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI) at Wits Business School is a leading research centre that advances knowledge on African philanthropy and social investment and is committed to developing a new generation of African researchers, academics, and experts through its academic programmes, research, publications, convenings, and other initiatives.
CAPSI seeks to appoint a Programme Manager responsible for coordinating and managing all activities within its research and publication portfolio. Working closely with and under the guidance of the Research Manager, the successful candidate will provide strategic and administrative support to ensure that research activities and publications are executed to a high standard and on time.
The role will require a high level of coordination and operational discipline to track deliverables across multiple research projects. Success in this position will depend on strong strategic planning, administrative efficiency, rigorous monitoring, and the ability to manage relationships with funders and research partners. The role will play a critical part in advancing CAPSI’s strategic vision and its pan-African values of collaboration and knowledge sharing.
This position has an attractive remuneration package and conditions of service. The post is a fixed-term, three-year grant-funded position. Renewal is possible, subject to performance and funding.
Brief Description
The candidate will be expected to:
· Lead the coordination and management of all research and publication activities, ensuring alignment with CAPSI’s overall goals and objectives.
· Support the Research Manager in the design and implementation of research and publication strategies, translating strategic priorities into actionable work plans.
· Monitor progress across multiple projects, identify potential risks and ensure research and publication outputs are delivered to a high standard and on time.
· Manage all publications in liaison with the Digital Publisher to ensure quality, consistency and timely dissemination.
· Serve as program management point of contact between students, researchers, and partners.
· Support the Centre with any other related duties.
Job Requirements
· A Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Project Management, Business Administration, Development Studies, Strategic Management, Non-profit Management, Social Sciences, or related disciplines) from a recognised university is required.
· Proven experience in program and project management within a university, research centre, or development organisation.
· Demonstrated expertise in the management of research and publication processes.
· Strong organisational and time management skills.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Knowledge of the African philanthropic and social investment landscape will be an advantage.
