The Intelligent Systems and Buildings (ISAB) Lab, part of the Center of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (CAIML) at TU Wien, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher working on causal machine learning for fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) in complex engineering systems, with a particular focus on renewable energy systems (wind turbines) and building energy systems. The successful candidate will work on machine learning methods for causal discovery and inference with time series data to improve interpretability, reliability and robustness of FDD in physical systems.
Key responsibilities:
Develop and implement causal machine learning models for time series problems.
Collaborate with other researchers in the field of machine learning.
Collaborate with domain experts in the field of energy systems.
Publish research output in leading conferences and journals.
Your profile:
We are looking for applicants with experience in one or more of the following domains: machine learning, time series analysis and signal processing, causality. We welcome applicants from diverse academic backgrounds including, but not limited to computer science, statistics, data science, physics, telecommunications and engineering.

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for project assistant. This is a minimum of currently EUR 5.014,30/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Expected start: as soon as possible (latest May 2026).
