Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Kitami Institute of Technology (KIT) is the northernmost national university in Japan and is located in Kitami City, the core city of industry and culture in the Okhotsk area in eastern Hokkaido. It is surrounded by a beautiful natural environment with four national parks including Shiretoko, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its vision “to nurture people, develop technology, contribute to the community, and work toward a better future” under the philosophy of “Developing technology that harmonizes with nature”, KIT’s mission, in a time of rapid progress of science and technology becoming more and more advanced and complicated, is not only to provide basic skills and knowledge on specialized fields, but to train the ability to be able to deal flexibly with interdisciplinary fields and newly developed areas.
Work content and job description
(1) Areas of Specialization: Wave information and communication, Information optics or Data science
(2) Primary responsibilities: This project assistant professor will be employed under the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research: the Promotion of Joint International Research (International Leading Research) project “Formation Processes of Heavy Elements in the Early Universe Elucidated by Superconducting Nanoelectronics, Large-Scale Numerical Simulations, and Data Science” (PI: Kotaro Kohno) (*). He/she will conduct fabrication and evaluation of submillimeter-wave receiver optics, development of observation systems, instrument operation, data analysis, etc. in cooperation with Dr. Tatsuya Takekoshi and his research group members. In addition, he/she will stay at domestic and overseas research institutes and observation sites where the above-mentioned instrument development and scientific research are being conducted for a long period of time to conduct research.

Benefits
[Compensation] Annual salary: 4 million yen - 6 million yen
Wages description: Salary will be determined in accordance with the university's regulations under the annual salary system for Project members.
Working hours: 08:30-17:15
Break time: 12:00-13:00
Holidays: 2 days off per week
Overtime and other explanations: Discretionary labor system (The working hours for a day is deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes.)

Contract period description: The contract period is three years. Within the contract period, he/she will be converted to a regular assistant professor position. After the conversion to the regular assistant professor (5-year term), he/she will be examined whether to go on to the tenured position as an associate or assistant professor.
