This is a hybrid position and will require an applicant to work both at UCLA's Campus and at CalKids partner sites.
Position Summary
The Project Coordinator will support the planning, implementation, coordination, and expansion of early wealth-building initiatives led by the UCLA CalKIDS Institute. Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator and working closely with Institute leadership, the Project Coordinator will serve as the primary liaison between the Institute and a broad network of partners, including community-based organizations, educational institutions, public agencies, financial capability providers, and statewide coalitions. The primary responsibility of this position will be overseeing the day-to-day implementation of the CalKIDS Institute Building Wealth at Tax Time Initiative, a multi-year effort designed to integrate CalKIDS, 530A ("Trump") Accounts, HOPE Accounts, and other asset-building opportunities into Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) outreach ecosystems. The Project Coordinator will coordinate and implement partner engagement, training, outreach, data collection, and ongoing communication with participating VITA coalitions and community partners. In addition to supporting the Building Wealth at Tax Time Initiative, the Project Coordinator will contribute to other Institute activities related to early wealth building, including development and dissemination of training resources, stakeholder engagement, research implementation, community outreach, policy initiatives, convenings, and partnerships that advance financial resilience and asset-building opportunities for low-income households. The position requires strong project management, relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple initiatives and work effectively with diverse stakeholders across California.
Salary & Compensation

Qualifications
- Experience in coordinating programs, projects, partnerships, or community-based initiatives. (Required)
- Experience coordinating meetings, trainings, workshops, or community engagement activities. (Required)
- Experience collecting, organizing, tracking, and reporting project information and performance metrics. (Required)
- Experience working with low-income communities, financial capability programs, asset-building initiatives, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs, workforce development programs, educational programs, or related community-based services. (Preferred)
- Experience supporting grant-funded projects and managing project deliverables. (Preferred)
- Experience developing or coordinating training programs, online learning modules, or technical assistance activities. (Preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, organize complex activities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. (Required)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. (Required)
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive relationships with community organizations, public agencies, educational institutions, and other stakeholders. (Required)
- Ability to speak about CalKIDS Institute programs and our impact with community leaders. (Preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and virtual meeting platforms. (Required)
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a collaborative team. (Required)
- Commitment to advancing economic opportunity, educational equity, financial capability, and community well-being. (Required)
- Familiarity with data collection, survey administration, program evaluation, or applied research activities. (Preferred)
- Knowledge of California's early wealth-building ecosystem, including CalKIDS, ScholarShare 529 plans, children's savings accounts, financial capability initiatives, or related programs. (Preferred)
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish. (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
- Bachelor's Degree in education, public policy, social welfare, social sciences, public administration, business, nonprofit management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)
Special Conditions for Employment
- Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
- Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
- CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
- Ability to travel to partner sites, meetings, trainings, and community events throughout Southern California. (Required)
