Project Group Leader (m/f/d) of Area B: Experiment and Area D: Data Modeling and Interoperability of the project FAIRmat with expected full-time employment – E 14 TV-L HU (subject to funding approval, third-party funding limited until 31.12.2028)
FAIRmat (www.fairmat-nfdi.eu) stands for FAIR Data Infrastructure for Condensed-Matter Physics and the Chemical Physics of Solids and is a consortium within the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). FAIRmat is building a FAIR data infrastructure for materials science and related research fields and develops NOMAD (www.nomad-lab.eu), the world’s largest data repository in computational materials science. Our highly dynamic and international team consists of members from software development, condensed matter physics/chemistry, and materials science.
We are looking for a committed colleague to strengthen our interdisciplinary team.
Your responsibilities:
- provide scientific and organizational coordination for Areas B: Experiment and D: Data Modeling and Interoperability within the FAIRmat project, including priority setting, resource planning, and coordination of team members
- oversee the technical management and quality assurance of the activities in Areas B and D, including the coordination of software development activities and the alignment of project deliverables
- develop and implement internal milestones and prepare regular progress reports
- present the project at national and international conferences and workshops, and disseminate results through scientific publications
- undertake business travel and coordinate project activities with partner institutions
What you bring to the table:
- a completed university degree, preferably a PhD, in Physics, Materials Science, Computer Science, or a related field
- demonstrated experience in collaborative, multidisciplinary, and multi-institutional research projects such as FAIRmat
- experience with scientific workflows, research data management, and research data activities aligned with the FAIR principles
- experience in structuring, describing, visualizing, and ensuring the interoperability of scientific data
- knowledge of data models, ontologies, or metadata standards for experimental and computational materials research
- expertise in object-oriented programming and data modeling; experience in the administration of scientific research projects is an advantage
- experience with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and related virtualization technologies
- excellent written and spoken English skills (minimum C1)
- strong leadership skills.
- excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
What would be desirable:
- experience with agile and/or matrix project management
- proficiency in Python and JavaScript, as well as experience with API development and web frontend development, is desirable
- experience with NOMAD is an advantage
- experience at the interface of experimental research, research data management, and scientific software development is an advantage
