About the Role
The Project Manager plays a key leadership role within the Business Optimisation Strategy (BOS) Program, leading assigned workstreams across planning, development, and implementation. The position ensures delivery aligns with Program priorities, governance requirements, and strategic outcomes.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, the role builds and maintains strong stakeholder relationships to drive key deliverables. It applies specialist project management expertise and sound judgement to identify, assess, and mitigate delivery risks, manage dependencies, and resolve complex issues.
The Project Manager translates Program priorities into structured delivery plans - managing risks, dependencies, resources, and stakeholder engagement - while providing high-quality advice to support effective decision-making.
This role reports to the Senior PMO Lead and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and delivery of assigned BOS workstreams and projects to achieve strategic goals, collaborating with university SMEs, delivery teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to align sequencing and priorities.
- Define workstream scope, deliverables, and milestones, maintaining detailed delivery plans, resource forecasts, and budget oversight to ensure project outputs meet quality standards on time and within budget.
- Manage vendor, contractor, and supplier relationships, including performance, expenditure, and contractual obligations, applying strong influencing skills to resolve delivery issues promptly.
- Identify and mitigate delivery, physical, and psychosocial risks early, maintaining core controls, dependencies, and project documentation to support transparency, governance, and UNSW compliance.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement, workshops, and working relationships across academic and professional groups to drive collaboration, benefits realisation, and continuous improvement.
- Provide high-quality advice, risk insights, and recommendations to senior leaders while adhering to UNSW governance frameworks, safety standards, and the Code of Conduct.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and significant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and industry expertise.
- Proven track record (5+ years) leading complex projects across the full lifecycle, including strategic planning, delivery, and documentation within large, matrixed environments.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with sharp attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into practical, actionable recommendations.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of collaborating effectively across all organisational levels and within cross-functional teams.
- Sound commercial acumen, including practical experience managing project budgets, forecasting resource requirements, and utilizing project systems and software tools.
- Outstanding time management and initiative, with a strong commitment to UNSW values, governance policies, and physical and psychosocial safety standards.
