Department Information
The Neuroscience of Mind and Behavior Lab (NiMBLe), located within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University (IU), research incorporates behavioral, cognitive, and neuroimaging (fMRI) research to identify the mechanisms by which social cognition changes over the lifespan in healthy and pathological aging. We are also interested in research related to stigma associated with mental illness and addiction. Our research uses behavioral and social neuroscience approaches to understand social cognition (the manner in which people process, store, and apply information about others), and how it changes over the lifespan. Our current projects examine on how healthy and pathological (e.g., Alzheimer's disease) aging affect social cognition.

Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Leads recruitment efforts, managing scheduling of testing sessions, and conducting or supervising in-person subject interviews, ensuring adherence to research protocols.
- Supervises and trains for junior-level staff.
- Monitors the progression of research projects.
- Maintains Institutional Review Board (IRB) documentation.
- Coordinates collaborative relationships, and maintains communications with testing participants to address questions and ensure a positive experience.
General Responsibilities
- Oversees management of laboratory including training of personnel in various techniques and analysis.
- Conducts large-scale surveys, research projects, and complex experiments.
- Ensures that lab safety policies and procedures are observed and maintains safety records.
- Oversees the set-up and maintenance of lab equipment.
- Assists in preparation of completed research reports or analyses on each project phase.
- Maintains inventory and orders supplies as necessary; oversees the disposal of hazardous waste.
- Maintains fiscal accountability of the program, including grant proposal development, and approves all expenditures for the laboratory.
Qualifications
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Preferred
- Master's degree in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years related research experience.
Preferred
- 4 years related research experience.

Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
