Overview
The Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute at Princeton University is seeking a skilled Project Manager to join the Avalos Lab in an exciting new multi-institutional project to develop a Sargassum seaweed BioRefinery (SaBRe) to produce biofuels, chemicals, food, materials, and other products for renewable energy and sustainable biomanufacturing (for more information visit www.SaBReproject.org). The team is comprised of thirteen research groups across nine institutions, with expertise in marine biology, microbiology, bioengineering, systems/synthetic biology, enzyme engineering, chemical engineering, fermentation, anaerobic digestion, hydrothermal liquefaction, and technoeconomic analysis.
Responsibilities
- Direct the project organization working with leadership at Princeton, collaborating institutions, and funders to advance the mission of the project.
- Help coordinate scientific efforts across internal team members and external research partners.
- Ensure clear communication of goals, risks, efforts involved, and progress.
- Assist with data management across all SaBRe groups, including storing, organizing, and sharing.
- Assist with dissemination of results.
- Help with the design and maintain SaBRe Team website.
- Use project management tools (e.g., Scrum, Trello, Smartsheet, etc.) to track progress of individual groups and the entire team efforts.
- Organize meetings, write and distribute meeting minutes.
- Help with the organization of milestones delivery efforts, including recordkeeping, preparing progress projections, and helping research teams strategize milestone achievement.
- Coordinate the preparation of Quarterly/Annual Reports and project updates.
- Coordinate and join travel events for SaBRe team and funding institution.
- Monitor and control project costs, and ensure projects stay within budget.
- Manage vendors and subcontractors.
- Help write research proposals for complementary and future funding of the project.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey scientific knowledge across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Project Management Experience.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
- A degree in a relevant science or engineering such as chemical/biological engineering, biology (synthetic, systems, molecular, cellular, microbial, marine), bioengineering, biochemistry, chemistry, or similar.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Experience in budget management is a plus.
- Interest in outreach programs is a plus.
- Experience with software for program management (e.g., SmartSheets) is a plus.
- Experience maintaining websites is a plus.
- Interest in participating in research is a plus.
