The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.

For more details, please view https://www.ntu.edu.sg/mse/research.

We are looking for a Project Officer / Research Fellow to design and synthesize metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with tailored redox activity and, ideally, intrinsic electrical conductivity for use in advanced energy storage systems. The research will involve developing and characterizing novel MOF-based materials to explore their electrochemical and electrocatalytic properties across a broad range of energy storage technologies, not limited to Li-ion or Zn-aqueous batteries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize synthetic routes for redox-active and conductive MOFs.
  • Investigate the electrochemical performance of these materials under diverse conditions and in various energy storage configurations.
  • Study the electrocatalytic behavior and charge-storage mechanisms to establish structure–property relationships.
  • Fabricate and evaluate electrodes incorporating the synthesized MOFs to assess their performance in energy storage devices.
  • Preferably have knowledge in scientific software or materials modelling tools (e.g., Origin, MATLAB, COMSOL, or similar).
  • Collaborate with team members to integrate MOFs into next-generation proof-of-concept energy devices and evaluate their potential in sustainable energy applications.
  • Responsible for project goals, deliverables, and objectives of the academic project
  • Preparing and delivering meeting presentations, notes, updates, and reports as per the request of the academic project

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in the design, synthesis, and characterization of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) or related porous materials.
  • Proven research experience in electrochemistry, materials for energy storage, or electrocatalysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in electrode fabrication and electrochemical testing (e.g., CV, EIS, GCD).
  • Track record of publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.
  • An effective team player with good communication, writing, & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently without supervision
  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong responsibility for research / work.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
