Job Description

Job opening – Research Fellow

The Health Services Research & Population Health (HSRPH) signature research programme at Duke-NUS Medical School (Duke-NUS) in Singapore invites applications from outstanding candidates. Duke-NUS embodies a strategic partnership between Duke University and National University of Singapore (NUS). It works closely with the Singapore Health Services (SingHealth) cluster, which is a network of national specialty disease centres, hospitals and polyclinics, to advance medicine and improve lives through cutting-edge research and education. Together, Duke-NUS and SingHealth form the Academic Medical Centre that comprises a number of academic collaborations. Among these collaborations is the Academic Medicine Innovation Institute, a forum for convening health services, medical device, and digital innovations. The major research focus of HSRPH is the organisation and delivery of health and social services in the context of an ageing population. Our research methods include decision science and simulation modelling, survey research, qualitative research, health economics and implementation science and evaluation. We invite applications for a Research Fellow position in HSRPH.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work on projects related to population health and infectious diseases initially, but this will transition into a role supporting Impact Assessment Unit. This will involve early stage Health Technology Assessment, evidence synthesis and cost-effectiveness modelling.

The successful candidate will provide support for grant and protocol development, study design, management of research activities, data analysis, manuscript writing, and dissemination of findings. He/She will also give closer guidance to projects that are identified as high-potential or high-impact. The candidate will be encouraged to develop his/her own research programme relevant to the scope of HSRPH. There will also be opportunities to be involved in workshops, seminars and mentoring medical students for health services research projects.

Qualifications

  1. PhD in a topic relevant to health services research.
  2. Preferably with three years' experience of quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods research.
  3. Prior experience of pragmatic study designs for health services outcomes, cost-effectiveness and evidence synthesis and translational research.
  4. Possess strong writing and critical thinking skills.
  5. Have good communication and presentation skills.
  6. Experienced in grant and manuscript writing.
  7. A team player who is highly motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse workforce.

The position is for six months initially but will be extended once further funding is secured.
