Position Overview

St. Thomas More College (STM) invites outstanding candidates who identify as Indigenous to apply for the Providence kanaweyihtâkosowin Chair in Indigenous Spirituality and Reconciliation. The purpose is to teach, conduct research, and engage in collaboration with Indigenous communities on spirituality and reconciliation. Limited term appointment up to five years starting July 1, 2026, with possibility of renewal. Housed in aligned academic department. In-person role at STM in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and teach 1-2 courses per year on Indigenous spirituality and culture.
  • Conduct research/scholarly/artistic work.
  • Contribute to department service.
  • Build relationships with Indigenous communities.
  • Foster awareness through dialogue, teaching, research.
  • Serve on Indigenous Advisory Circle.
  • Support safe environments for Indigenous students.

Qualifications

Education

Master’s in humanities/social sciences required (doctorate an asset). Knowledge of Indigenous language required. Teaching proficiency. Alignment with STM areas (e.g., social justice, Catholic studies) an asset.

Experience

  • Strong record in knowledge creation/research in Indigenous contexts.
  • Inclusive teaching/research.
  • Research methodologies, OCAP principles.
  • Administration/service contributions.
  • Commitment to Indigenous theories/pedagogies.

Applicants must be Indigenous with ties to communities. Only Indigenous candidates considered; verification required.

Compensation

Salary per 2023-2027 Collective Bargaining Agreement based on qualifications/experience. Comprehensive benefits.
