Job Summary
Transplant APC (Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner) Provides inpatient/outpatient/OR based both primary and specialty medical services for the division of Transplantation and Advanced Hepatobiliary Surgery.
This position is responsible for providing both primary and specialty medical services. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.
Responsibilities
Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians. First and second assist in the OR. Performs physical examinations. Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures. Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions. Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management. Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences. Assists in the collection of data for research projects. Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams. Participates in special projects and committee functions. Procedures: Line placement/removal, wound care, paracentesis, first and second assist.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency
Nearly Continuously: Office environment. Often: Infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals). Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking. Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah. Preferred Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Utah State prescriptive privileges. Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination. UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
