Psychiatrist- Part-time
Job Summary
Functions as a Psychiatrist for Student Health Services (SHS) as a primary caregiver in mental health, dedicated to protecting confidentiality and meeting ethical standards associated with the practice of psychiatry. Provides clinical assessment/evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management to registered students at Augusta University (AU) in accordance with the guidelines and accepted standards of care in psychiatry.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
- PATIENT CARE: Analyze, interpret, and evaluate subjective/objective findings of patients. Obtain medical histories and order and interpret diagnostic tests of patients. Prescribe medications and conduct ongoing medication management for patients representing best practices. This includes participating in e-prescribing as a service to the patient population. Ensure compliance with Georgia's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. Provide care that is culturally competent, adaptive, trauma-informed, and strength-based to best meet the patient's needs. Provide telehealth services via an approved platform to the patient population of Student Health Services. Provide timely follow-up care for established patients. Provide general psychiatric consultations and medical advice for the CARE Team, as afforded by patient-doctor confidentiality.
- EMERGENCY CARE AND PATIENT EDUCATION: Emergency, crisis care, and intervention. Provide emergency psychiatric services and risk assessments. Facilitate voluntary and involuntary hospitalizations of patients. Provide patient education regarding medications, treatments, and anticipated outcomes.
- CONSULTATION AND EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote mental health awareness and education through primary prevention activities on various AU campus sites. Provide consultations, case management, and professional development workshops for clinicians at the Student Health Services and Student Counseling and Psychological Services. Provide education and consultation to clients, patients, students, faculty, staff, and parents on issues pertaining to mental health awareness. Provide psychiatric documentation for students seeking accommodation through the Office of Testing and Disabilities Services.
- PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team composed of primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, social workers, registered dietitians, and other professionals to provide comprehensive and integrated mental health services to patients. Maintain a professional relationship with WellStar MCG Health Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine; will not be able to serve as faculty at the Medical College of Georgia in any evaluative capacity for medical students. Understand and abide by the LCME accreditation requirements. Attend and participate in staff meetings and committee meetings, as required or requested.
- OTHER DUTIES: Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited medical school (MD or DO) and completion of internship and psychiatry residency. Unrestricted license as a physician in the State of Georgia with current board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry. (If not currently board certified, to obtain within one year of employment). Unrestricted DEA. Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification. American Heart Association ACLS certification (if not currently certified, to obtain within one year of employment).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in providing mental health services to college students, adolescents, and emerging adults in an outpatient setting. Strong psychosocial and clinical assessment skills. Minimal supervision is required regarding the use of time and the ability to prioritize work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, patients, and families. Experience and comfort in providing care that effectively meets the needs of all students. Ability to make sound clinical decisions in crisis situations.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Experience providing mental health services to college students, adolescents, and emerging adults, and experience providing adolescent ambulatory care, whether through residency or current practice.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Certifications/License
Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; M-F
This is a part-time non-benefits eligible position (.20 FTE or 8.0 hours per week)
Pay Band: B20
Salary: $80.05/hourly-$96.15/hourly
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
