Psychologist or Psychiatrist, Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Psychiatry & Cancer Center, Director of Psycho-Oncology Research (Tenure-Track)
The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health at Stony Brook University, in collaboration with the Stony Brook Cancer Center, invites applications for a full-time, open-rank, tenure-track faculty position. We are seeking an exceptional and visionary scholar to serve as the Director of Psycho-Oncology Research.
The successful candidate will lead the development of a dynamic and innovative interdisciplinary research program focused on the psychosocial, behavioral, and psychiatric dimensions of cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life care. This individual will be expected to establish and sustain a robust extramurally funded research portfolio that advances the science of psycho-oncology and aligns with the strategic priorities of both the Cancer Center and the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic leadership and oversight for psycho-oncology research initiatives.
- Building collaborative, interdisciplinary partnerships across departments and institutes.
- Mentoring junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students.
- Contributing to high-impact publications and national research visibility.
- Supporting and enhancing the academic mission of Stony Brook University through teaching, service, and scholarly engagement.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited or PCSAS-accredited program, or M.D, or Ph.D./M.D (or foreign equivalent). Track record of scholarly cancer-related work including peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with leadership activities. Experience with fostering interdisciplinary cancer-related research.
