Psychological and Wellness Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Psychologist.

This individual will provide mental health counseling services for UW Tacoma students; mental health consultations, outreach workshops, and developmental programming; and provide supervision to pre-doctoral interns. As part of those responsibilities, the person in this role will provide individual assessment and therapy, couples therapy, and group therapy, as well as crisis intervention to UWT students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing routine and crisis mental health assessment to University of Washington student outpatients
  • Formulating treatment goals for mental health outpatients and making effective referrals to appropriate healthcare resources after assessment
  • Conducting individual, group, and couple psychotherapy, conceptualizing and utilizing psychological theory and research findings in case formulation and treatment planning
  • Planning and conducting psycho-educational programs on mental health issues
  • Communicating with other professionals about case conceptualization and management when collaborating in the care of a client
  • Providing crisis intervention to mental health outpatients
  • Providing consultation to faculty and staff regarding mental health issues with students
  • Participating in the development of counseling policies, forms, and procedures
  • Maintaining accurate records in a timely fashion
  • Participating in data collection and analysis related to counseling center usage
  • Providing clinical supervision and didactic training to doctoral psychology interns and practicum trainees, completion of supervision evaluations, write letters of recommendation and other professional development for trainees (as appropriate) and provide feedback to training director about trainee performance
  • Developing community resources, including referral sites
  • Performing all duties in a manner consistent with the Revised Code of Washington, Washington Administrative Code, and the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from APA accredited program. Pre-doctoral internship must have been completed in an APPIC-registered facility; APA-accredited internship preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a clinical setting (can include internship year)

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Licensure in WA State or another U.S. jurisdiction. If licensed in another U.S. jurisdiction, must obtain WA State licensure within six months of hire
  • Experience in clinical supervision
  • Experience with, and strong commitment to, serving an ethnically and culturally diverse population
  • Some scheduling flexibility is required

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a licensed psychologist is strongly preferred
  • A minimum of one year experience in a university counseling center (can include internship year)
  • Experience and interest in any of the following areas related to students seen, issues typically addressed, and methods/orientations utilized by SCC staff: LGBTQ, international, first-generation, low-SES, or students of color; domestic violence, PTSD, suicide prevention, group work, substance/alcohol abuse, eating disorders, ADHD; group work, couples therapy
  • Competence in short-term therapies, a broadly-based relational/developmental approach; interest and experience in work with non-traditional students; and experience and interest/expertise in psychological assessment and/or development and facilitation of psycho-educational and therapeutic groups
