Position Summary

Position Summary: Associate Faculty provides an invaluable service to the College and our students by providing a quality learning experience of their profession in our classrooms, laboratories, and studios. Instruction is provided throughout Cochise County via various media. This position is specific to our Douglas Campus for face-to-face instruction blended with some online learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities: Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position:Teaches assigned courses to enrolled students and manages a diverse population of students in a classroom and/or laboratory environmentDevelops, prepares, and implements lesson plans; conducts pre- and post-assessment of students; evaluates, assesses, and plans for students’ educational and social needsCollaborates with other faculty and staff in the assessment of teaching strategies and the effectiveness of the instructional program to help promote a culture of continuous improvementMaintains student records, statistics, and/or other pertinent information as required by the college and the departmentResolves issues relevant to area of responsibility and scope of authority, referring more difficult or complex problems to the appropriate Department Chair, Dean, or other College officialPerforms other related duties as assigned.

Additionally, employees must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with students, faculty and staff, and the public. Employees will follow all college policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines related to this position.

Education and Experience; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience Requirements: Master’s degree, preferred in Music or related discipline but not required, AND (required) 18 graduate hours in Voice, Choral from an institution accredited by an institutional accrediting body of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education.OR Bachelor’s degree in Music and three (3) years of work or teaching experience in vocal performance

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and proceduresKnowledge of trends, developments, and new technologies affecting the Music programKnowledge of how to assist students of diverse cultures and backgrounds to improve and master their musical skillsKnowledge of research-based adult learning principlesKnowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional approachesSkill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students’ needs and progressSkill with current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applicationsAbility to instruct students in multiple skills and techniques around voice performanceAbility to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful mannerAbility to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situationsAbility to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detailAbility to work independently while contributing to a team environmentAbility to analyze, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems either through the department chair or dean or by using independent judgment and decision-makingAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work Environment: Work is performed in a classroom, laboratory, office, or online setting under limited supervision. Evening or weekend work may be required. Participation at the end-of-semester concert, which is typically off-site and not during the regularly scheduled class time, is mandatory.

Physical Requirements: Essential functions of this position require lifting, manual dexterity, and the ability to communicate.Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or, otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting the majority of the time with some walking and standing requiredMental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, and adaptability. Creative problem-solving skills are also important.
