Public Administration - Part-Time Lecturer Pool

Public Administration - Part-Time Lecturer Pool

The Division of Politics, Administration, and Justice at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Public Administration Part-Time Lecturer Pool.

We are seeking intelligent, highly motivated, and well-organized part-time lecturers to teach in our curriculum. We are particularly interested in faculty to teach in face-to-face classes for both our upper-division and graduate-level courses in Public Administration.

An area of particular need is experience teaching or qualifications to teach upper-division and graduate courses in public finance and research methods, but other areas of interest include administrative law, emergency management, human resources, leadership, organizational theory, or ethics.

This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available.

APPOINTMENTS FROM THE PART-TIME POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MUST BE AVAILABLE ON VERY SHORT NOTICE.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should have prior teaching experience at the university level. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.

In order to be considered for a teaching assignment in PAJ, temporary faculty must be either:

  • Academically qualified: A temporary faculty member is academically qualified by virtue of holding a Ph.D. (or achieving ABD status with an expected graduation date), D.P.A., J.D. or MA/MS/MPA in a field related to his or her teaching responsibilities and maintaining scholarship activities to support his/her teaching.
  • Professionally qualified: A temporary faculty member can be professionally qualified by virtue of having a record of outstanding professional experience directly relevant to his/her teaching assignment. A professionally qualified faculty member will have a graduate degree as well as professional experience in a field related to his or her teaching responsibilities. Additionally, professionally qualified faculty will engage in professional and/or community service in an area that supports his or her teaching responsibilities.

The minimum level of education required to teach at the 100-300 level is a master's degree or ABD (even without a master's degree) in a relevant field. In order to teach a course at the 400-level and graduate level, temporary faculty must have a terminal degree in their field (Ph.D., D.P.A., and J.D. are considered terminal degrees for courses taught in PAJ). In cases of exigent curricular circumstances, departure from these requirements may be made at the discretion of the division chair in consultation with the department coordinator(s).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

HOW TO APPLY

A complete online application must be submitted in order to receive consideration. Please provide the following materials as it relates to your application requirements:

Required materials at time of application:

  1. Cover Letter which includes a statement of which courses qualified to teach
  2. Curriculum Vitae
  3. Copy of your unofficial transcripts conferring your highest terminal degree
  4. A list of three (3) references with contact information
