QAMSS and CGC Press and Communications Coordinator

The Quantum and Advanced Materials technologies for a Sustainable Society (QAMSS) Strategic Research Initiative (SRI) brings together Cambridge minds to facilitate collaboration across disciplines, improve Cambridge visibility, and coordinate large strategic grants. QAMSS facilitates collaborations via working group members representing complementary activities. Examples include: Interdisciplinary Research Centres (Cambridge Centre for Data Driven-Discovery, Energy, Neurosciences, Synthetic Biology); Strategic Research Initiatives (Global Challenges, Trust in Technology); Strategic Research Networks (Digital Humanities); and Cross-School Initiatives (Cambridge Digital Humanities, Cambridge Zero, Centre for Digital Built Britain). These are distinctive in supporting a sustainable society.

Based in the Cambridge Graphene Centre in West Cambridge, a position exists for an experienced Press and Communications Coordinator to coordinate the communications activities of the QAMSS SRI, as well as those of the CGC and its various UK and EU projects.

The mission of the Cambridge Graphene Centre (CGC) is to investigate the science and technology of graphene and related materials. The CGC also hosts the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in 2D Materials of Tomorrow, in collaboration with the University of Manchester, the Layered Materials Research Foundry (LMRF) in Collaboration with CORNERSTONE at the University of Southampton, the Advanced Photonic Integrated Circuits Pilot Line for Europe (PIXEurope), and the Graphene Flagship. The CGC SRF caters for well over 100 users from academia and industry, both within and outside Cambridge, and the UK.

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and maintain links with media, the UK funding agencies, the EC.
  • Raise the profile of QAMSS and the CGC by communicating research outcomes and demonstrating research impact to diverse audiences and stakeholders, furthering the reach of QAMSS key messages and results. Press releases, outreach events, media communications will be key.
  • Support the QAMSS research community by enhancing reach of results, with particular emphasis on results with industry and consumer relevance.
  • Develop and execute media strategies and initiatives that support the above aims and have measurable outcomes.
  • Develop and lead the QAMSS, CDT, CGC, LMRF, etc. web pages, to ensure these are informative, up to date, and serve, especially for the QAMSS one, as the central communication hub for the initiative.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
