Qualitative Researcher in British and European Politics, CIC

The Oxford Department of International Development is looking to recruit a Qualitative Researcher in British and European Politics who will report to Professor Masooda Bano, and will be a member of a research group working under a European Research Council Advanced Grant titled Choosing Islamic Conservatism. The project employs a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to study integration of Muslims in the UK and Europe, with a particular focus on the UK, France, Germany, Austria, and Bosnia.

Key Responsibilities: Work closely with the PI to:

  • Document levels of Muslim representation within political institutions in the study countries
  • Map approaches of mainstream political parties towards endorsing Muslim candidates and towards Muslim constituencies
  • Compare discourses of the far-right parties in relation to Muslim communities using a variety of sources

This is an in-person role and is offered as a full-time, one-year position.

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s or PhD degree in politics with a focus on the UK or European electoral politics. They will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programs. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write down the findings in academically rigorous way, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings is essential to this role.
