Radiation Metrology Specialist
Job Summary
The Department of Medical Physics is seeking a Radiation Metrology Specialist to lead our brachytherapy well chamber and source calibration efforts and uphold the highest standards of radiological safety. This role will be the guardian of accuracy and safety, managing a comprehensive suite of survey meters and overseeing the lifecycle of both sealed and unsealed radioactive sources. Beyond routine operations, the Radiation Metrology Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert, mentoring personnel and spearheading research to build a world-class, activity-based metrological laboratory.
This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Contributes to the development of radiation dosimetry research through presentations for internal and external audiences
- Designs, implements, and executes research plans for improving clinical ionizing radiation metrology instrumentation
- Consults with department personnel on proper protocol for maintaining laboratory compliance with accrediting organizations
- Provides instruction and technical support on newly developed and existing measurement instrumentation in various environments
- Radiation and Laboratory safety
- Facilitates cooperative research group(s) to improve current and develop new highly sensitive ionizing radiation measurement instrumentation
- Calibration of well chambers and radioactive sources
