to take responsibility for other types of cases may arise through rotations on the inpatient consultation service or coverage during the absence of other members of the department.
Students and residents will be involved in this service on an
intermittent basis.
Additionally, active participation in the multidisciplinary
tumor boards is expected.
Research : Although this position has no specific
assigned research responsibilities, reasonable scholarly
activities, such as publications, presentations at national
meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations,
are expected. In the event that research funding is acquired, cFTE
will be adjusted accordingly.
Administrative/Other : Time and effort [~2%] shall be
devoted to departmental service-related activities. This may
include departmental committee work, professional development or
training, and other such assignments.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or DO degree (or equivalent) completed via an
ACGME-accredited program
- Ability to provide excellent clinical care across a broad range
of disease sites in a multi-disciplinary oncology setting
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships in
order to establish and maintain strong referral patterns
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment
of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of
patients, faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and
experiences, or a commitment to do so as an affiliate faculty
member at VCU.
Established in 1987, VCU’s Department of Radiation Oncology
provides a full range of clinical services at the Virginia
Commonwealth University Medical Center and its regional affiliated
facilities. It is comprised of over 30 faculty in its three
divisions, spanning five clinical locations and treating
approximately 150 patients per day, with active, funded programs in
clinical research, medical physics, and molecular radiobiology. Our
team is an integral component of VCU’s Massey Comprehensive Cancer
Center, one of only two National Cancer Institute-designated
comprehensive cancer centers in Virginia.
Our Radiation Oncology team is highly unified and collaborative,
reflecting the discipline at large. Our faculty are committed to
providing exceptional and compassionate patient-focused patient
care, conducting cutting-edge research, and educating emerging
attending providers, medical physicists, and dosimetrists to
contribute to the ever-evolving field of Radiation Oncology.
Our clinical services currently include Varian True Beam LINAC with
body stereotactic capabilities and CT simulators available at the
HMP and CMH community facilities. Additionally, there is access to
the full complement of technological offerings of our downtown
location (Adult Outpatient Pavilion/AOP): ETHOS Helical LINAC
(installation in progress), MR LINAC (ViewRay), Varian EDGE for
stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiotherapy, 3T MR
simulator, and an image guided brachytherapy suite allowing
adaptive treatment.
Richmond, Virginia is a midsized metropolitan city with
historically distinguished architecture, world class museums,
parks, and gardens, a thriving nationally recognized restaurant
scene, and an expansive cultural arts community. Go rock climbing,
hiking, mountain biking, or kayaking on the James River, then
explore farmlands with berry picking, wineries, tomato festivals,
and antiquing – all within a weekend! The city is in close
proximity to Washington, DC, the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains,
and scenic coastal/beach-front areas for endless adventuring and
inspiration. Our South Hill satellite (located approximately 80
miles from our downtown facility in the southern Virginia region)
supports our rural patient population, and our Hanover satellite
(approximately 8 miles northeast of downtown) comprises both
suburban and rural populations. Both are very accessible to all of
the unique and enjoyable experiences to discover throughout RVA and
beyond.
