Radio Advisor (Part-Time)

The University of Arizona's Student Media department is seeking a qualified candidate to fill their Radio Advisor position.

The Radio Advisor supports the mission of KAMP Student Radio by providing guidance, training, and operational support and coordination. The student-facing role is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of station activities, mentorship of student leaders, and development of strategic initiatives that enhance the visibility, professionalism, and sustainability of the station.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as an advisor to KAMP Student Radio, providing ongoing support and mentorship to student participants.
  • Coordinate the daily operations of the radio station, ensuring compliance with university policies and broadcast standards.
  • Advise and train students in radio programming, production techniques, station policies, and broadcasting ethics.
  • Mentor and support the student station manager and leadership team in their responsibilities.
  • Assist in the development and execution of marketing, outreach, and fundraising campaigns to promote station growth and community engagement.
  • Attend and participate in editorial board station leadership meetings as needed.
  • Develop a professional relationship with industry contacts, alumni, and media professionals to provide networking and growth opportunities for students.
  • Support planning and development of the station in alignment with student media goals.
  • Coordinate content outreach initiatives to expand the station's audience and increase engagement across campus and the broader community.
  • Support KAMP Student Radio alumni network to foster long-term engagement, mentorship, and support for current students.
  • Collaborate with university departments and external partners to develop and implement new broadcasting platforms and content streams.
  • Assist the station's mobile DJ services including revenue-generating opportunities; support student staff in managing bookings, promotions, and operational logistics.
  • Identify and support opportunities to expand the station's broadcast reach, including transitioning towards an FM broadcast model, in alignment with the university policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the development and execution of marketing and advertising initiatives to enhance station visibility and audience engagement.
  • Identify and support the new broadcasting opportunities to expand the station's reach and platform diversity.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of broadcast rules, regulations, and guidelines, including FCC compliance and university broadcasting standards.
  • Familiarity with audio production and internet broadcasting technologies, including studio equipment, editing software, and streaming platforms.
  • Understanding broadcast management, audience development, and marketing strategies within a media or educational setting.
  • Basic knowledge of web design and digital content production tools, including content management systems and multimedia platforms.
  • Ability to supervise and maintain radio broadcast facilities, including technical infrastructure and equipment maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of FM broadcast regulations and licensing requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advances learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Three years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years experience broadcasting including one year of college radio or student media.
  • Experience working within the University of Arizona systems, processes, or a similar higher education environment.

These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
