Job Description
The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) is seeking a Radiochemist Specialist to join our Innovative Development & Translation (ID&T) division. The ID&T division at MURR focuses on advancing radioisotope production methodologies with an emphasis on their translatability into current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) standards. Core objectives of the ID&T division include: first, developing innovative and scalable radioisotope production techniques; second, optimizing and continuously improving existing isotope production lines at MURR to address any emergent issues; third, providing support to MURR’s research groups through a blend of technical expertise, collaborative projects, and tailored solutions; and fourth, evaluating new opportunities and managing new projects that will become the foundation of tomorrow’s growth and success.
This position will report to the Developmental Radiochemistry Senior Manager and focus on routine radioisotope manufacturing, separations, process development, and quality control testing.
Key Duties Performed by This Position Will Include
- Perform routine radioisotope processing to deliver high-quality radiochemical-grade radioisotopes that are suitable to support research and industrial partners.
- Execute radiochemistry experiments to drive radioisotope process development, focusing on the scalable manufacturing of medical-grade radioisotopes.
- Assist in developing investigations and perform analyses to resolve issues that may arise in existing radiochemical production methodologies at MURR.
- Develop and author Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and relevant technical documentation required for radioisotope production and quality control methodologies.
- Perform radioanalytical tests for quality control testing of radioisotope precursors (e.g. gamma spectroscopy), including (radio)chromatography techniques (HPLC, IC, TLC).
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and regulations related to radioisotope handling and production.
- Collaborate with the members of other groups (i.e., Change Control & Translation, Developmental Engineering) within the Innovative Development & Translation division to ensure that the radiochemistry deliverables are aligned with project timelines, technical milestones, and translational objectives.
- Conduct systematic literature reviews in radiochemistry and radioisotope production, to support radioisotope process development and ongoing projects.
- Maintain and manage laboratory inventory and procurement of reagents and supplies.
- Coordinate the calibration, qualification, and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Shift
Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in a related/relevant area.
- Prior experience working in radioisotope separations and manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of nuclear reactions and radiation safety.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety in a laboratory setting.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $80,000 to $110,000 annually
Grade: GGS-M12
