Radiologist Assistant 2

Stanford University is seeking a Radiologist Assistant 2 to work under a limited degree of supervision of a radiologist or physician to provide diagnostic information that assists in diagnoses and therapies. Enhance patient care and research goals by assisting the radiologist in the diagnostic imaging environment. Provide support for the design, development, implementation and execution of research studies.

Duties include:

  • Work closely with the physician on complex medical imaging procedures, 3D reformations, and post processing procedures.
  • Participate in the design, development, implementation and execution of multiple research studies involving medical imaging systems; use product, research software and hardware, and/or computer systems to generate clinical images and data to assist in diagnoses and therapies.
  • Operate medical imaging systems to obtain images for use in the research of pathologies and development of clinical imaging procedures; operate computer systems to generate images for use in clinical diagnoses and therapies and in the development of research projects.
  • Transfer, position and instruct patients regarding procedures; instruct researchers, technologists, and physicians regarding procedures.
  • Provide technical, scientific, and educational consultation to researchers, technologists and physicians.
  • Develop and test new products involving medical imaging and/or 3D reformations and post-processing.
  • Post-process volumetric digital image data on 3D workstations; produce and track quantitative measurements; ensure the post-processed images are of maximal clinical value.
  • Accurately record all procedures performed and maintain necessary paperwork and/or database for scheduling and billing purposes.
  • Assist with preparation of interesting cases for publication; participate in the development of standard operating procedures, quality assurance programs, and departmental safety policies and procedures.

Other duties may also be assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Two-year degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of judgment and skill.
  • Reliable self-starting and self-directed nature, exhibiting initiative and focused work ethic.
  • Advanced knowledge in cross-sectional anatomy and physiology, sterile technique, patient relations, medical imaging examination preparation, and medical imaging safety and screening procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in the operation of medical imaging systems, 3D reformations, and post-processing procedures.
  • Advanced working knowledge of medical imaging physics, principles, tissue contrast, and applications.
  • Advanced knowledge with Unix, Windows, Mac, and/or Linux computer operating systems; experience in MR system operation and troubleshooting system and computer issues.
  • Ability to identify images for post-processing and/or artifacts in the images; ability to respond to detailed requests for views and/or images depicting certain anatomy and/or pathology.
  • Advanced experience in teaching and instruction of technologists, researchers, and/or physicians.
  • Ability to collaborate with other professional colleagues.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:

  • Certification in Nuclear Medicine by the NMTCB or ARRT (N).
  • NMT-RHN, California Nuclear Medicine Technologist License.
  • Must hold one of the following certifications: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), California Registry of Radiologic Technologists, American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).
  • Advanced ARRT registry (e.g., CT, MR, etc.) desired.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support certification desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • No heart implants.
  • Requires good fitness/aerobic capacity and visual/auditory acuity including color vision.
  • Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently grasp forcefully, operate foot and/or hand controls.
  • Occasionally use a telephone, lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull patients or equipment that weigh 11 to >40 pounds.
  • Rarely stand/walk, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), twist/bend/stoop/squat, write by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 'Medical imaging' in this document includes but is not limited to X-Ray, Nuclear Medicine, CT, PET, and/or Magnetic Resonance. Individuals are exposed to these forms of imaging and associated high magnetic fields and noise at greater than80dB TWA on a regular basis.
  • May be exposed to allergens from animal models, patients and human scan subjects.

The expected pay range for this position is $59.05 to $68.98 per hour.
