Imperial is one of the world’s leading engineering focused universities and its mission is to achieve enduring excellence in both research and education, and we are committed to making life changing advancements for the benefit of society. The Department of Bioengineering is committed to this mission through advancing the frontiers of our knowledge, translating that knowledge for societal benefit, and educating leaders in the discipline’s three main areas:

  • Biomedical engineering (developing devices, techniques and interventions for human health)
  • Biological engineering (solving problems related to the life sciences and their applications for health)
  • Biomimetics (using the structures and functions of living organisms as models for the design and engineering of materials and machines)

In the most recent national research assessment, REF 2021, 95% of our Department's unit of assessment was judged either world leading or internationally excellent. We are committed to building on this success through the recruitment of talented academic staff. Further information on our exciting research activities can be found on our website: www.imperial.ac.uk/bioengineering
