Description:
Performs complex professional accounting work involving the application of comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. Perform cash management and complete complex reconciliations of general ledger accounts and bank accounts exceeding $30 million. Responsible for creating customized financial reports using a report writing instrument. Compiles detailed accounting reports and audit work-papers. Prepares unclaimed property report. Analyze accounting system interfaces to ensure proper distribution within the Banner Finance System. Stop payment of checks for Payroll, Accounts Payable and Student Financial Services within University bank accounts. Recording and communication of wire and electronic funds transfers; debit card disbursements; includes entering monthly Journal Vouchers. Interact with bank and University staff in resolving cash.
Examples of Duties
Cash Management: - 85%
- Analyze data to compile a Statement of Financial Position on a monthly basis to assist senior management in financial decision making.
- Comprehensive reconciliation of all University bank accounts which include complex interfaces from various system modules. Cash accounts exceed $30 million.
- Assure accuracy and integrity of revenue data entered into the Banner Finance System is posted in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This includes online payments, auxiliary enterprises, and special deposits.
- Utilize 3rd party vendor systems on-line to research accounting issues.
- Research and identify proper distribution of bank wire transfers.
- Allocate monthly credit card transaction fees.
- Analyze all clearing accounts including outstanding reconciling items.
- Research and adjust for bank errors, transpositions, and payroll taxes.
- Issue stop payments and voids for payroll, accounts payable and revenue checks.
- Organize and maintain unclaimed property records for submission to State of Missouri Unclaimed Property Division.
- Participate in preparing fiscal-year end financial statements and notes in compliance with GAAP; preparing schedules, worksheets and other related notes in support of the financial statements.
Financial Report Development: - 10%
- Extract, analyze and build queries for accessing general ledger financial data from the Banner Finance System.
- Develop customized cash management reports as needed.
Interact with bank and University staff in resolving cash related issues: - 5%
- Contact bank to identify and clarify unusual transactions.
- Interact with bank personnel and University staff to resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Contact staff responsible for processes that require special handling.
- Supervise, train and delegate daily duties to student worker.
- Organize, file and store monthly accounting information.
Typical Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience:
- Two (2) years progressively more responsible accounting experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Applications, especially Excel.
- Experience with Banner financial system preferred.
