1. Assess patient’s leisure and social functioning, interest, and needs.
2. Establish treatment goals and objectives to meet individual needs and specific age level of patients, and determines the therapeutic recreation modality by which these goals are achieved.
3. Instruct and monitors patients in appropriate use of equipment and supplies used in leisure activities. 4. Evaluate and documents each patient’s progress and the effectiveness of therapy treatments and records results in patient’s medical record.
5. Develop and applies clinical skills by interviewing and assessing each patient’s level of social and leisure functioning; observe patient participation in therapeutic recreation activities and their responses. 6. Coordinate therapeutic recreation activities in large groups to encourage socialization of patient and to observe patients’ reactions to large group situations. Provide a wide range of recreation activities to meet patients’ leisure and therapeutic needs.
7. Reports an incident or accident that occurs during treatment, using the hospital’s recognized incident reporting system; handles the affected patient and other patients who may have been present, in a manner that shows good judgment and adherence to hospital policies for safety and prevention of risk or injury.
8. Conducts individual patient sessions, and conducts lectures and educational sessions as necessary. 9. Confer with other treatment members, superiors and families regarding patient considerations as well as the availability of resources.
10. Develop and maintains a positive and professional rapport with patients, staff, and physicians.
11. Assume responsibility for professional growth by current reading and attendance at educational programs outside the facility.
12. Attend in-service training, seminars, and participates in other educational activities as required.
13. Perform other duties as assigned and/or requested.

16. Familiarity with basic medical and psychiatric terminology.
17. Understands human behavior and modification.
18. Physically capable of participating in and conducting active recreational programs.
19. Ability to identify signs of unfavorable symptoms, such as fatigue and irritability.
20. Sound judgment and capability to respond to unusual circumstances.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education/experience in therapeutic recreation.
Two (2) years’ experience in addictions, psychiatric, and/or eating disorders preferred.
Current R.T. certification or certification eligibility as Recreation Assistant CPR/AED certified.
Valid state driver’s license and good driving record required.
