The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) is the result of a regional social project recognised by the Parliament of Catalonia through Law 5/1997, of 30 May. The UVic-UCC proprietor is the Balmes University Foundation (FUBalmes), a private non-profit entity that is subject to Catalan regulations on foundations under the Protectorate of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

UVic-UCC has a federated structure which allows the founding foundation to combine efforts and create synergies with other foundations with the same aims in order to strengthen the University and the public service it provides and, at the same time, contribute to regional development in Catalonia. In this regard, in January 2014, a federation agreement was made with the Bages University Foundation, based in Manresa, and, by mutual agreement, in December 2016, a further federation agreement was made with the Foundation for Advanced Studies in Health Sciences, proprietor of the UVic-UCC Faculty of Medicine. Subsequently, in September 2020, a federation agreement was made with the Elisava University School Foundation in Barcelona.

The Board of Trustees of the Balmes University Foundation, chaired by the mayor of Vic, is made up of representatives of municipalities, the Generalitat of Catalonia, the social, professional and business world, the federated university centres, entities affiliated with the university and members of the university community itself. Our distinctive system of public supervision and private management facilitates efficient, responsible, flexible governance.

This unique model of governance among Catalan universities is ideal for efficiently fulfilling the university's aims and effectively developing public services in the fields of teaching, research and knowledge transfer, building on strong regional roots.

The University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia uses the general university application system of the Generalitat of Catalonia, ensuring equity in student access and admissions procedures, and it is partly funded by a contract programme with the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

At UVic-UCC, Catalan is the preferred language for teaching and administrative activities, while respecting the university community’s right to use Spanish in accordance with current legislation, and active promotion of English and other key languages as part of the university’s international strategy.

The selected candidate, under the authority of the Board of Trustees and within the framework of federated structure and governance, will represent the University before public and private individuals and entities and perform all the functions provided for in Article 34 of the FUBalmes Statutes and Article 43 of the Organisational and Operational Regulations of UVic-UCC.

The unique nature of the UVic-UCC governance model within the framework of the federation requires teamwork and total coordination and collaboration between the various governing bodies of the institution.

REQUIREMENTS

• Hold a PhD.
• Be a full university professor or have equivalent accreditation by a quality agency.

PROFILE OF CANDIDATES TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT

• Minimum of 15 years of experience in strategic leadership and management positions within universities, research centres or higher education institutions of similar complexity.
• Expertise in managing international relations, academic networks and global cooperation projects.
• Demonstrated capacity in management and institutional governance and capacity for dialogue with collegiate bodies, public administrations and institutional representatives.
• Accredited experience in teaching, research and knowledge transfer.
• Capacity for building relationships, negotiation skills, empathy and ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and foster a climate of collaboration.
• Strategic capacity for attracting external resources (public and private), endowments and donations, and identification of growth and funding opportunities for the institution.
• Experience in implementing university sustainability, equity and social responsibility policies.
• Particular value will be given to proficiency in English, accredited through professional experience, academic production or demonstrable linguistic competence.

• Statutory declaration of the veracity of the data in the curriculum.
• Accreditation as Doctor and Full Professor.
• Summary four-year action plan (four pages).
• Letter of motivation, addressed to the Chair of the Board of Trustees, submitting the application.

PROCEDURE AND DEADLINES

• Opening of the call: 9 February 2026.
• Deadline for reception of applications and documents: 20 March 2026.
• Verification by the Secretary of the Selection Committee that requirements have been met and deadline for rectification of defects or omissions (3 days).
• Verification of merits, motivation and action plan by the Selection Committee.
• Selection Committee proposal of candidates to the FUBalmes Executive Committee. Once the proposal has been received by the Executive Committee, the evaluation and approval process provided for in the FUBalmes Statutes and the University's Organisational and Operational Regulations continues.
• The Selection Committee reserves the right to request an interview with candidates for a personal presentation of action plans and to request further information, if necessary.
