Reg Student Technical - UCO Athletics Department
Position Overview
This is a regular student technical or labor position in the UCO Athletics Department, in which student workers support daily operations, event management, and facility services for intercollegiate athletics. This role provides hands-on experience in sports administration, event coordination, and customer service while contributing to a professional and fan-friendly environment. Student workers will gain practical experience in sports administration and event management, customer service and communication skills, leadership and teamwork experience, and professional workplace skills applicable to future careers.
Hours per Week
Up to 25 hours per week. Schedule based on seasonal demands.
College/Department Overview
The Athletics Department at the University of Central Oklahoma currently supports over 400 student athletes in 15 NCAA Division II sports including Football, Men's & Women's Basketball, Men's & Women's Golf, Baseball, Softball, Wrestling, Women's Track & Field (Indoor & Outdoor) and Cross Country, Women's Tennis, Women's Soccer, Women's Rowing and Women's Volleyball.
Department Specific Job Functions
Student workers may be assigned to one or more of the following areas:
Event Operations
- Assist with setup and breakdown of athletic events (equipment, seating, signage, etc.).
- Support game-day operations including ticketing, ushering, and crowd management.
- Provide excellent customer service to fans, teams, and staff.
- Monitor facilities to ensure safety and compliance with department policies.
Facility and Equipment Management
- Prepare practice and competition venues.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of athletic facilities.
- Assist with inventory, distribution, and storage of athletic equipment.
- Report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors.
Administrative Support
- Assist with clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and document preparation.
- Support marketing, promotions, and social media efforts (if assigned).
- Help coordinate schedules, meetings, and team logistics.
Game Day Support Roles (as assigned)
- Scoreboard or game clock operator (training provided).
- Statistics crew support.
- Media relations assistance.
- Team liaison or runner.
Enrollment Requirements
Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. F1/J1 Visa students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester: To work in a regular student position during the summer semester, students must be enrolled in at least 3 summer credit hours or be enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in the minimum credit hours required for their classification and employment type. Students enrolled in fewer than 3 summer credit hours will be subject to FICA taxes during the summer term, which apply to both the student and the department. For Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) positions, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate).
Note: New incoming students are not eligible for student employment until the semester in which they begin classes.
Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. Qualifications/Experience Required
- Current UCO student in good academic standing.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to follow directions and work independently or in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred
- Interest in athletics, sports management, or event operations.
- Previous experience in customer service, events, or athletics.
- Basic knowledge of sports rules and game operations.
- Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs. (varies by assignment).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities and/or in an office setting.
- Ability to stand, walk, lift, and do physical activity for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions for outdoor events.
