Registered Dietitian, Part Time
Position Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a part time Registered Dietitian for the Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Registered Dietitian position is to assess and intervene with Pediatric (birth to 18 years), Adult (19-21 years) for nutritional risk and education requirements.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Performs nutrition assessments in the time frame consistent with the N.J. State Health Code and/or policy and procedure for designated subunits, and triages clients into an appropriate level of care to determine time frame for follow-up intervention and intensity of nutritional care required. Documents all nutritional care provided to clients in the medical chart using the S.O.A.P format or as outlined in the policy and procedure for designated subunits.
- Evaluates and monitors client's progress consistent with policy and procedure, and implements appropriate nutritional care collaboratively with primary care physician or designate. Attends and actively participates in interdisciplinary conferences and discharge planning.
- Demonstrates clinical competency in all areas of clinical nutrition by maintaining 15 CEU's per year, participation in peer review and cross training educational activities. Develops and implements clinical research projects collaboratively with clinical nutrition staff, ADCN and/or medical/nursing staff.
- Counsels and educates patients and families on nutritional requirements. Develops instructional materials with post-tests to support client learning and ability to provide self-care.
- Maintains accurate nutritional records and communicates appropriate nutritional care to the primary care physician or designate; and to the ADCPS during clinical rounds and peer reviews.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition or a related field plus registration by the American Dietetic Association, or eligibility to write and pass the registration exam within six (6) months from date of hire.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands: Position requires standing 1/3 of the time, walking up to 2/3 of the time, sitting 2/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel over 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 2/3 of the time, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, couch or crawl none of the time; talking or hearing over 2/3 of the time and tasting or smelling under 1/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds. Position has no special vision requirements.
Work Environment: Moderate noise (Examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic.)
