Registered Nurse 1, Dermatology Surgery
Overview
The Department of Dermatologic Surgery is seeking a Registered Nurse with ambulatory, surgical and Dermatology experience to perform direct patient care in a busy Mohs surgical and cosmetic dermatologic practice.
Essential Duties
- Direct patient care of surgical and cosmetic patients
- Obtain and assess vital signs, patient history, medications, and accurately log in to patient records.
- Present patient analysis to physicians using concise and accurate verbal communication.
- Patient pre and post procedure teaching
- Set up for surgical and cosmetic procedures.
- Administer local anesthesia under the direction of the physician.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Possess initiative, flexibility, and strong organizational skills.
- Communicate with patients through phone calls and EPIC medical records.
- Maintain pathology logs.
- Report directly to Charge Nurse or Clinical Operations Manager
- Collaborate with other team members to give patients the best practice experience.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse and current CPR certification.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and clinical skills with the ability to work under the direction of clinicians.
- Ability to work with acutely and chronically ill patients across multiple disciplines.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records and basic software such as Microsoft Office.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Experience in ambulatory care, case management, or care coordination.
- Experience with EPIC or other electronic medical records systems.
- Experience with endoscopy procedures or conscious sedation.
- A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
Principal Responsibilities
- Performs physical assessments of patients, including triage duties and advises on treatment or course of action by having knowledge of nursing care standards and principles.
- Develops, implements, and manages nursing care plans in collaboration with physicians.
- Interviews patients and records medical history to establish data for treatment plan.
- Plans and coordinates the admission and discharge of all patients.
- Instructs patients and families in proper treatment and advises patients on health maintenance and disease prevention.
- Performs patient care procedures by following appropriate policy and procedure.
- Records patients’ medical histories and symptoms, operates medical machinery, administers treatment and medications, and coordinates patient follow-up and rehabilitation; assures all procedures for maintaining patient confidentiality are maintained per HIPAA guidelines.
- Identifies education needed to assure competent delivery of patient care for oneself and others in the department.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Graduation from accredited school of nursing.
