REGISTERED NURSE: Ambulatory Care Services (Ambulatory Care Nurse Resource Pool-Surgical Specialties)
Job Summary
This is a "multiple-fill" job opening: A total of three (3) (1.0 FTE), Registered Nurses will be hired to fill this job opening. Hours & shifts are identical for both hires.
The Float Nurse in the Ambulatory Care Resource Pool within the department of surgical specialties is accountable for the delivery of culturally sensitive, age specific direct nursing care for adult and pediatric Surgical Specialty patients in multiple Surgical Specialty ACU’s. The Registered Nurse demonstrates adaptability to changing needs and priorities based on unit, department, and institutional goals/objectives. The Registered Nurse shows a willingness to adapt to different populations as adult and pediatric surgical specialty care demands. Orientation and training provided for new subspecialties on expansion of division.
- Perform phone triage, in-basket management, including assessment, screening, clinical advice, nurse visits (in person/ video visit) in-clinic hands on procedures, and other duties as assigned.
- Provide direct patient care -wound management, pre and post operative care and education, common clinic procedures and tests in fast paced, sub-specialty surgical environment.
- Administer sedation/analgesia under the direction of a physician in Surgical Specialty clinics. Assess and document hemodynamic status during sedation and post procedure. Initiate peripheral intravenous lines.
- Provide nursing care to adult and pediatric specialty populations in various departments within surgical specialties to include, but not limited to: Catheter changes, SP tube changes, bladder instillations, ISC teaching, urodynamic testing, temporal artery biopsies, blepharoplasty, Botox injections, wide local incision, PDL procedures.
- Assist/support faculty and provide nursing care in clinic or a designated treatment room, with minor and complex procedures.
- Accurate and efficient documentation of nursing care.
- Knowledge and appropriate use of internal and external resources.
- Provide functional supervision to assistive personnel; collaborate with colleagues, other disciplines, and health care/community services to promote continuity of care.

Required Qualifications
- Current licensure to practice nursing in the state of Michigan (RN).
- Two (2) years of recent experience (in last 3 years) of RN experience caring for patients in adult inpatient surgical units, Adult ED, or Adult ICU.
- ACLS Certification required within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a float RN
- Demonstrated experience with peripheral IV insertion.
- BSN
- Two (2) or more years of recent (in last 5 years) experience with electronic medical records, specifically EPIC. Computer/typing skills such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Salary & Nursing Framework Level
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C. Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire. Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.
Hours & Schedule
Hours: 40 hrs/wk, 8 hour shifts. Monday through Friday. Potential Weekends and Holidays.
Shift: Days, Variable shifts. Flexibility in scheduling is required.
Location: This is a float position as an Ambulatory Care Nurse Resource Pool within surgical specialties. Location varies based on assignment. This position will involve travel to various locations at all Michigan Medicine Facilities.
Note: This is not a remote position.
