Registered Nurse, Ambulatory Orthopedics

The Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Department at Boston Children's Hospital provides care for patients with a wide range of orthopedic conditions and sports injuries. Our multi-disciplinary team includes a broad array of specialists - including pediatric orthopedic surgeons, orthopedic and sports medicine doctors, rehabilitation specialists, nurses, physical therapists, nutritionists, and other clinicians trained in orthopedic care - all dedicated to caring for your child. Our specialized training allows us to tailor treatments to your child rather than using adult protocols that may not be right for them. Every year, our department treats more than 100,000 patients, allowing us to continually expand our knowledge of pediatric orthopedic conditions and treatments.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working in a busy orthopedic clinic that provides comprehensive and quality care to pediatric patients and families for a variety of orthopedic needs, including congenital issues and trauma related problems.
  • Providing direct patient care - independently and in collaboration with the care team.
  • Providing patient/family education and anticipatory guidance.
  • Phone triage of routine and urgent concerns in collaboration with team APC and MD colleagues.
  • Handling of portal messages.
  • Follow-up phone calls regarding test results and follow-up recommendations.
  • Care collaboration.
  • Acting as a clinical resource for administrative staff.
  • Seeing patients at Boston (Longwood), Waltham and Needham satellite campuses.
  • Working Monday - Friday four 10 hour days, 7am -530pm

Minimum qualifications:

Education: BSN

Experience: Minimum 1 year orthopedic or pediatric experience (inpatient or ambulatory). And/or ambulatory experience, (especially experience with phone triage). 3-5 years preferred. 2+ years RN experience.

License/certification: MA RN license

Please note: During a public health emergency, individuals in this role may be expected to take on additional duties to respond to organizational needs.
