About the Role:


IT Program is in the College of Arts, Business, Law, Education and Information Technology. We build sustainable competency in intelligent technologies and their applications in different sectors and smart environments, for example, smart cities, medical decision support, and intelligent cyber security. You would be expected to make significant contributions to this strategic development and further growth of the student numbers in the IT Program, particularly in the context of AI breakthroughs with large language models.

The new role requires expertise in contemporary intelligent technologies of data science, natural language processing and their applications in ICT management, networking, cyber security, app development, cloud computing and computer vision. You will exhibit strong ability to acquire new knowledge, adapt to align with the discipline strategic areas, work with discipline colleagues to build the Program's strength and reputation in the related research, create sustainable demand for related courses.


The position is eligible for a 15% allocation to research and scholarship and can apply for up to a 40% workload in research fellowship.

This is a Teaching Focused Academic B classification, salary range $103,662 (per annum) - $125,473 (per annum) plus 17% employer superannuation contribution. This is a Full Time (36.75 hours per week) over Two Year Fixed Term contract.

Duties:

Some of the duties you may perform are:

  • Coordinate and deliver multiple subjects at local and offshore campuses, with focus on Transnational Education programs.
  • Work collaboratively to develop high quality courses and units with modern technologies to enable strong and sustainable demand, re-develop at least one unit per year to support the courses strong graduates competency of employability.
  • Develop at least one demonstrable system from research, display it on IT lab screens (e.g. D633 external screens) and online demo sites, to encourage industry engagement, inspire existing students and attract potential students.

About You:

You will be expected to work collaboratively and independently as a member of the University and participate in or undertake activities that enhance student learning and engagement and offer world class research excellence and innovation. 

You will be expected to have a strong capacity to conduct world class research in the area of natural language processing, plus cyber security or data science, in context of newly available large language models, with a proven track record of quality publications: three or more first or corresponding authored Q1 publications in the past three years, or two or more first authored A* publications in the past two years.

You will exhibit a strong ability to conduct innovative research in the context of large language models, and develop sample theses for coursework Master students, and sample capstone projects for Bachelor students, at HD grade, particularly applying new AI technologies.

Preferably you have exceptional teaching, organisational and communication skills, as well as experience within the tertiary sector, with an ability to play an important role in redevelopment of courses in software development, network management, data science and cybersecurity courses with the new AI driven by large language models and be able to teach in areas of staff shortage, including mobile app development, cloud app development, security operations and vulnerability analysis, network management, enterprise security management, digital forensics, cyber law, data privacy and cyber-physical systems, data visualisation, data analytics for cybersecurity, small IT business system development, and ICT management.

You will be expected to have a capacity to develop collaborative linkages with industry, strong programming skills and technical ability, particularly in modern AI technologies, to develop demonstrable systems with emerging technologies for real world problem solving, to showcase to students and industry, inspire potential students and expand our reach in the industry, high level communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity. You will also need a commitment to the application of relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of the position and a willingness to commit to Victoria University’s values which are: Values – Access, Excellence, Respect Behaviours – Engagement, Collegiality, Courage
