Overview
Triage students, provide coverage during staff absences, and high-volume periods, while managing full-time undergraduate immunization compliance. This is a 9 month position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Triage students who call or present to the Student Health Center without an appointment. Schedule appointments with a Health Services provider as deemed necessary. Follow up with students who utilize EMT services, as well as services in one of the local emergency rooms. Assist students with making appointments with area specialists. (25%)
- Cover the front desk when administrative staff are at lunch, out of the office, and during high volume time periods. (25%)
- Assist in the Management of the undergraduate student immunization compliance, including corresponding with students about immunization requirements, following up on missing immunizations, and entering data. (25%)
- Administer oral medications and injections to students who require maintenance medication. Room students and obtain vitals. Assist providers with procedures such as suture removal, nebulizer treatments, and dressing changes. Conduct out of state eye exams for students’ drivers’ licenses. Restock exam room supplies and be responsible for medication reconciliation and ordering of supplies. (15%)
- Conduct point of care testing and preparation of specimens for transport to the contracted lab as needed. Review laboratory results and alert providers to results needing urgent attention. Contact students with laboratory and imaging results when deemed appropriate by providers. (10%)
MARGINAL DUTIES:
- Perform all other duties as may be required.
Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Three to five years’ experience in college health, private practice, or emergency department/urgent care or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
- Intermediate experience with Medicat or other EHR.
