REGISTERED NURSE: RN Coordinator- Transplant Procedure Unit

  • Provide patient care to patients receiving various medical procedures and infusion including but not limited to biopsy and paracentesis procedures
  • Coordinate nursing care between the pre-procedure, procedure and post procedures phases
  • Assess and document hemodynamic status during procedures and recovery periods
  • Initiate peripheral intravenous lines
  • Complete assessment, education, and instruction to kidney recipient patients as needed
  • During low census periods in TXP Procedure unit, you may be required to float to non-procedure areas within the Transplant Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU).

  • Customer service, interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to build respectful relationships within and between units and individuals.
  • Adaptability to changing needs and priorities based on unit, department, and institutional goals/objectives.
  • Knowledge and skills providing patient and family education and reinforcement related to transplant processes, including but not limited to telephone intervention and face-to-face meetings in both individual and group settings.
  • Proficiency with typing and electronic health record documentation.
  • Ability to manage complex clinical issues utilizing assessment skills, protocols, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Willingness to adapt to different populations within the Transplant Center after successful Orientation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan.
  • Three (3) years of nursing experience as an RN within the last five (5) years
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent (within 5 years) nursing experience in a treatment area
  • Ability to start and manage IV infusions, medications, and complete lab/phlebotomy draws
  • Ability to stand for an extended period
  • Transplant Certification (CCTC/CCTN) within three years of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of recent (within 5 years) nursing experience providing pre-, intra- and post-procedure care to patients undergoing biopsies or paracentesis.
  • Experience in outpatient procedural areas within Ambulatory Care
  • Demonstrated professional leadership, such as through development of patient education, guidelines and tools for care, or presentations
  • RN Experience in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit caring for post liver, pancreas, and or kidney transplant within the last 10 years
  • ACLS certification
  • Demonstrate knowledge of UMHS nursing policies and standards of practice
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:

This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework REG NURSE - LEVEL C.

Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.

Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort. Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Hours per week: 40

Shift/Days/Hours: Days, Monday through Friday, potential weekends and holidays as clinics need arise. Hours may be variable based on patient and volume needs.

Location: Onsite work located in the Transplant Center- Procedure Unit; Taubman Center, Floor 1, Area G. Work location could change based on patient needs.

Note: All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
