Regular Faculty
The University of Idaho is the state’s land-grant research university and is proud to hold the Carnegie Classification of Doctoral Universities - Very High Research Activity (R1), placing it among the nation’s top research institutions. With world-class faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and strong support for interdisciplinary collaboration, the University fosters an environment where cutting-edge research and high-quality teaching thrive together.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Idaho invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service, and whose research and teaching complement existing departmental strengths and/or address emerging research areas related to national priorities in mechanical engineering, are encouraged to apply. Competitive candidates should have demonstrated potential to develop an externally funded high-impact research program, mentor Ph.D. students, and advance the state of the art in mechanical engineering. Candidates should also have a record of, and aptitude for, research dissemination in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
Competitive candidates should also have the ability and expertise to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in one of the traditional areas of mechanical engineering. The successful candidate will be assigned courses that may include laboratory and project components, in addition to conventional lecture components. Occasionally, some courses may be delivered virtually, either synchronously or asynchronously. New tenure-track faculty typically receive a reduced teaching load (often one class per semester) prior to tenure to support the development of a strong research program.
Applicants should possess excellent written and oral communication skills and will be expected to participate in departmental, college, and university service and leadership activities. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide academic and professional advising to undergraduate and graduate students.
