About the Project
Are you looking for a project that asks you to build a broad understanding of a problem, understand your stakeholders, develop deep technical expertise, and build solutions for real-world impact?
Zambia’s agriculture is vulnerable to climate crises, lacking timely, accurate data on crop status. Current monitoring methods, limited by the lack of mobility and access to technology of Agricultural Extension Officers, producing sparse and delayed information. ZAPIR aims to harness remote sensing and geospatial technology to provide real-time insights, enhancing decision-making and resilience. This project seeks to push the boundaries of crop monitoring and disaster response utilizing remote sensing platforms (satellites, crewed aircraft, and UAVs) in support of the Zambian agriculture sector.
We have access to one commercial dataset and are building relationships to access more data for development of image processing algorithms, training of deep learning models, and implementation of thoughtfully designed information dashboards.
