Job Description
This is a temporary position for an expected one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date. The Reprographics Specialist position will perform complex technical duties while providing general printing production functions: digital and offset printing, bindery, digital file preparation, customer service, and secure shredding assistance.

The Reprographics Specialist position will perform complex technical duties while providing general printing production functions: digital and offset printing, bindery, digital file preparation, customer service, and secure shredding assistance.
Responsibilities
Digital Printing
- Work Independently, under general supervision, to maintain color calibrations, inventory of supplies and overall functionality of various color and monochrome printers.
- Utilize EFI Fiery RIP Software applications to maximize cost savings and minimize use of papers, toners, and shorten run lengths for faster throughput.
- Inspect incoming files for print quality, visual identity and graphic standards, and copyright compliance.
- Process digital print orders using various paper stocks and image quality enhancements as required.
- Evaluate final prints for image quality, consistency, and adherence to production specifications.
- Work with paper catalog settings for specialty papers and adjust feed trays and settings to accommodate changes in humidity, static and other environmental factors that affect print quality.
Customer Service
- Provide complex technical support for specialty orders and consultations for cost savings and rush orders.
- Assist clients with clarifications on paper types and online ordering.
- Utilize the FileMaker database to track orders, confirm deliveries, and collaborate with delivery assistants to ensure that time-sensitive projects are handled effectively.
Bindery/Digital Finishing Equipment Operation
- Ability to operate a wide range of equipment including but not limited to automated Paper Cutter, Bookletmaker, Folder, Creaser, Business card slitter/cutter, 3 hole drill, padding rack for carbonless and standard padding orders.
- Prepare completed orders for delivery by shrink wrapping or boxing, other duties as assigned.
Secure Shredding
- Pick up bins and boxes throughout campus, operate box truck with liftgate.
- Process documents through industrial grade shredder.
- Document chain of custody as per regulations and certify secure document destruction.
Offset Press Operation
- Work independently, under general supervision to perform operations of press as assigned, which may include inserting plates, inking up rollers, mixing fountain solutions, setting ink and water balance on all printing units.
- Responsible for positioning images properly on correct paper stocks.
- Determine proper impression setting, regulate proper amounts of offset powders and setting proper Infrared (IR) drying temperatures, utilize scanning densitometer to continually measure print consistency output to maintain quality of printed images throughout the order.
- Responsible for removing and disposing of waste ink, washing up rollers and ink fountains (or applying anti-skin), cleaning blankets, plate cylinders, impression cylinders, and bearers at the end of the shift or order, and performing other related duties as assigned.
Pre-Press System
- Work independently, under general supervision to process PDF files and output plates for assigned presswork.
- Utilize pre-press interface software as needed for press operation.
- Other classification related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
The entry qualifications would normally be obtained through completion of a high school education or equivalent certification plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of and the ability to use standard PC and Macintosh platforms, their operating systems and applicable software.
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to operate a wide range of reprographics equipment and systems, including, but not limited to, the ability to operate pre-press equipment/software, high speed copiers (black & white and color), offset presses up to two-color, and bindery equipment.
- Ability to learn new equipment and processes quickly, as well as troubleshoot applicable equipment.
- Requires basic knowledge of lithography and reprographics systems and operations.
- Ability to produce basic variable data on high speed copiers.
- Working knowledge of desktop publishing and graphic software and the ability to manipulate and translate media, as well as process and enhance electronic files through pre-press software. Working knowledge of campus graphics standards and procedures.
- Working knowledge of mixing and matching ink, manipulating color values and ensuring even density on the sheet and consistent color throughout the job using applicable equipment.
- Ability to manipulate and set up files and equipment in the production of a wide range of specialized material and media such as but not limited to CD, DVD, posters, banners, magnets, signs, and fabric printing.
- Work may require working knowledge of applicable U.S. Postal Service requirements and processes related to standard and automated mailing processes and other shipping and receiving methods.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust and adapt to a changing work environment and requirements including the ability to quickly learn to operate applicable new equipment/software and to obtain certifications when applicable.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- If assigned, ability to provide lead work direction to student assistants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in operation of offset and digital printing systems, color management, general binding and digital finishing experience and good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
Compensation and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Range: minimum $3,800 - maximum $4,400 monthly.
Classification Salary Range: minimum $3,680 - maximum $5,558 monthly.
The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

Position Information
Temporary/Full-time/Non-Exempt (up to one year with the possibility of further renewal)
Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.
Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.
