Te Kāhui Poipoi Rangahau | AUT Research Office supports research excellence and the growth and management of research income across the University.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We have a vacancy for a Research Advisor, Māori Engagement. This role is critical in embedding Māori aspirations, interests, and Mātauranga Māori at the heart of AUT research. Supporting the Research Engagement Manager Māori, you will be helping AUT researchers to engage meaningfully with te Ao Māori to enable informed and impactful research. You will also be supporting the development of Māori research, including promoting kaupapa Māori research methodologies.
Ngā haepapa matua | Key Responsibilities
- Guiding researchers to engage with te ao Māori and embed Māori aspirations and worldviews within external research relationships and research funding proposals.
- Supporting Māori researchers to secure and manage external research funding
- Strengthening our relationships with Māori stakeholders, Iwi, organisations, end-users, and communities.
- Mentoring AUT Research Office staff to strengthen Māori responsiveness.
Ko wai koe | About you
We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of the research space who demonstrates a healthy level of self-confidence and patience. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Vision Mātauranga policy and the ability to connect with people wherever they are on their journey, showing empathy and respect for different perspectives and experiences.
You will bring:
- Knowledge of tikanga Māori (Māori custom), mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) and Te Ao Māori (Māori world view),
- A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- At least 3 years of experience working in the research sector or an equivalent role in education, government, local government, NGO etc.
- Existing networks within te ao Māori, whether with Iwi, Māori organisations, or relevant Government Ministries & Departments.
- A collaborative approach and alignment with our team values of whanaungatanga, tiakitanga, mahitahi, and tautoko.
